Cavan General Hospital

20,000 sq. m general hospital

RKD Architects was the original designer of the 334 Bed Cavan General Hospital.

In 2001 RKD was requested and commissioned by the HSE to prepare an outline development control plan for the site which in turn would facilitate a number of new extensions and new build projects to commence.

RKD has recently been responsible for the following capital developments in Cavan General Hospital:

  • Midwife Led Unit
  • Fitout of 21Bed Ward
  • New Operating Theatre
  • Extension to Pathology Department
  • High Dependency Unit
  • Special Care Baby Unit
  • Extension to Maternity Department
  • New Main Entrance Concourse (Stage 3)
  • Cardiac Rehabilitation Unit
  • Interim Medical Records Department
  • MRI Unit
  • Oncology Day Services (Stage 3)
  • Mortuary (Stage 2)
  • Central Stores (Stage 2)
  • All of the above works fall under the remit of Phase 1A.

Phase 1B as described in the masterplan proposals provides for 14,000 sq. m. of additional acute hospital accommodation to the side of the existing Hospital which has been designed to be constructed on a phased basis should this be required.
