Baileys Manufacturing Expansion
10,000 sq. m beverage manufacturing & distribution facility
Baileys Irish Cream is a worldwide success story. So much so that in 2003, owners Diageo decided to expand production to meet growing demand for the product on a global scale.
RKD Architects delivered an ultra-modern manufacturing facility of approximately 10,000 sq. m. that would seamlessly integrate the process of producing and bottling Baileys Irish Cream. RKD faced an ambitious construction timetable with the requirement for low-level production to commence in June 2003, from project inception in December 2001.
The facility is located on a prominent site north of Belfast and in accordance with the client’s brief the design has produced a landmark, quality building that makes a strong statement for the Baileys brand. The overall aesthetic to the north facade presents a unified, dynamic design to the building as approached by the M2 motorway.
The project was complex, necessitating a design that would accommodate process areas, bottling line, packaging area, warehouse, energy centre, reception and offices as well as a water and effluent treatment plant. In addition, site provisions for loading, security, parking, and landscaping were designed for the facility as part of RKD’s responsibilities.
With the new plant running to full capacity, the company will be able to achieve its objective of 10 million cases per annum.
