Western Gateway Building, University College Cork
8,700 sq. m life sciences & biomedical research
The project involves the fitout of c 8,700 sq. m of the upper two floors of the existing UCC Western Gateway Building in two phases.
The completed areas will provide a centre for Life Sciences and Biomedical Research in University College Cork. This new facility replaces very old and out of date laboratory facilities which are currently located in disparate parts of the campus. The bringing together of these various life sciences departments will help to foster collaboration and cross pollenisation of ideas and research in their respective fields.
New research and teaching laboratories include the following;
- Anatomy – Dissection Room and Mortuary (Laboratories and Offices)
- Biochemistry – Teaching and Project Research (Laboratories and Offices)
- Cancer Research (Laboratories and Offices)
- Pharmacology (Laboratories and Offices)
- Physiology (Offices)
- Institutional National Health (Offices only)
- Medical Training (Group Study Rooms and Seminar Rooms)
