Crumlin Children’s Hospital is Ireland’s leading paediatric hospital and RKD has been involved with this hospital on ongoing projects since they designed the original hospital.

Over the years, radical changes in population, the complexity of medical services and new approaches to the treatment of childhood illness have all combined to alter what is required of this landmark building. The average duration of a child’s stay in hospital has reduced from around one month to 3 days and there has been a huge increase in the demand for out-patient services.

RKD was commissioned to undertake an intensive review of current and proposed new services and to make recommendations on how the hospital (an important teaching facility) could grow in a systematic way while continuing to offer its normal daily services.

RKD prepared a detailed master plan that shows how the hospital can be developed over a fifteen year period.

Crumlin Hospital continues to engage RKD’s services for significant new projects including:

  • New Laboratories
  • Outpatient’s Tower
  • National Cardiac Unit
  • Oncology Department
  • New Intensive Care Units
