Bank of Scotland (Ireland) HQ
12,500 sq. m headquarters offices
RKD Architects designed the headquarters of the Bank of Scotland (Ireland), which became the first new building of the new Millennium on St. Stephen’s Green in Dublin. The building makes a striking new addition to the St. Stephen’s Green West frontage. A large glazed window over three floors is framed by honed, red sandstone cladding and overlooks one of the city’s famous landmarks, the historical Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland building. The 12,500 sq. m. building presents a four-storey facade to St. Stephen’s Green, while rising to seven storeys to the rear of the site.
The development represents an urban design challenge for the architects and has required a particularly sensitive approach to ensure that this contemporary office building sits comfortably within its historic location. On entry, visitors are drawn into the building along a natural red sandstone wall, which ends in the dramatic atrium, which is naturally lit from a curved, glazed roof at the rear of the building.
RKD Architects designed the building shell and core for Greenwest Property and also acted as architects for the tenant, the Bank of Scotland (Ireland). A series of multipurpose meeting rooms and quiet rooms are interspersed in a predominantly open plan arrangement, allowing for specific work tasks to be carried out while still engaging with the open office. Catering facilities, a Dealing Room, and a large meeting centre at ground floor all form part of the office fit-out. An executive suite is provided at the top floor level allowing for spectacular views out into St. Stephen’s Green.
