AIB Bankcentre HQ
Fit-out of 37,000 sq. m bankcentre campus expansion
AIB’s expansion in 2003 saw their existing headquarters in Ballsbridge almost double in size with the brief for the 37,000 sq. m. building calling for the provision of office accommodation for an additional 2,000 plus employees. The design is planned around a striking 6-storey high atrium with glazed roof and includes a new restaurant with ancillary kitchen facilities, private dining suites, a 25-seater boardroom, executive offices and links to the existing buildings.
The new building is flooded with natural light with the open plan layout granting employees the benefit of daylight views either through the fully glazed façades or the striking curvilinear glass roof. Light is captured and enhanced also in the reflective quality of materials such as Swiss Satin glass and polished plastered walls.
The palette of finishes throughout is predominantly light and neutral, punctuated with accents of spring-like colours in the form of coloured glass along core walls and in the restaurant. Contemporary clean lines are present in every detail, while modern furniture is married with timeless classic pieces evoking a sense of enduring quality.
The success of this design rests with the seamless integration of the old and new. The deliberate openness achieved by the new building and in particular the atrium which unites the existing and new office spaces allows greater social interaction and integration among AIB employees. The new building accommodates the blending of different work cultures, changing work practices and technologies in the flexible and adaptable office space – providing the client with a flexible, forward thinking environment.
