RKD designed the Centre for Research in Advanced Therapeutic Engineering (CREATE) to realise Cork Institute of Technology’s aim of providing therapeutic solutions that meet current and future needs of individuals in close collaboration with regional and national enterprises. The CREATE building provides a state of the art working environment for a multidisciplinary team of scientists, engineers and students to maximize the impact of their research and drive economic growth, innovation and job creation in the region and nationally.

Michael Delaney, Vice President for Development at CIT said: “Uniquely, the new CREATE Centre will bring together multidisciplinary researchers from the life sciences, photonics and bioengineering in a purpose-built facility which will enhance CIT’s growing number of collaborations both nationally and internationally.”

The building is located in the centre of the CIT campus adjacent to the existing Science department with which it will have close working links. It is a stand-alone two storey building with ancillary roof plant with a total area of approximately 1,533 sq. m. The CREATE building accommodates research laboratories, associated offices and meeting rooms. An external plant area on the roof, screened with a frameless louvre system, will only be visible from distant or elevated views.

CREATE’s research focus is in the arena of translational health research and combines the three complementary areas of biosciences, biomedical technologies and advanced bio-imaging to drive research in Advanced Therapeutic Engineering. It will facilitate a more blended approach to solving real world problems specifically in relation to public health. It will improve disease diagnosis and stimulate the discovery of new and more effective medicines through innovative approaches provided by interdisciplinary teams of scientists with specialisations in physics, chemistry, biology and biomedical engineering.
