Primark Berlin SSC
8,200 sq. m department store refurbishment & fit-out
The new Primark store in Berlin is located within the Schloss-Strassen Center at Walther Schreiber Platz which opened in March 2007. The site where the Schloss-Strassen Center now stands was previously a Hertie department store. Berlin’s first shopping centre, the Forum Steglitz, was opened on the street in the 1960’s and still operates next door to Schloss-Strassen Center. Schloss-Strasse was the original everyday shopping street in the former West Berlin.
The project involved the fit-out of a large section of existing 5-year-old shopping centre to provide 2 floors of retail and an upper level of back-of-house areas. It also involved new external signage and internal mall elevations fronting onto two existing rotundas. Internally a 4 storey atrium was infilled to provide retail and plant room locations.
The store offers shoppers two storeys of retail space across 5,490 sq. m. The store in total is 8,200 sq. m. and was completed over an 18-week period.
The unit was provided by the developer as a grey box shell and possession of the unit was taken by Primark at the end of February 2012. The store provides 5,490 sq. m. of retail space on the ground and first floor levels and incorporates Primark’s latest interior store design features and display fixtures. The retail floors have taken full advantage of the height available to provide a bright and exciting retail experience.
A number of energy-saving and environmentally friendly measures are installed as part of the fit-out. Extensive use is made of Low Energy LED lighting and a full cardboard and plastic recycling facility has been installed. Store lighting is automatically controlled using the Building Management System (BMS)
